Shoulder and upper back pain
Shoulder and upper back pain can normally be separated into two main categories, chronic (longterm / ongoing) or acute (sudden onset). Chronic pain is often felt in the area between the shoulder blades is often stiff due to poor posture or stress which causes a fairly constant mild dull ache. This often leads to headaches and neck pain too.
Acute pain is normally quite sharp and happens very suddenly, perhaps following a traumatic injury during sport or after a trip, fall or road traffic accident. However, it may just be the case that you have slept funny. It is often associated with neck pain or headaches and may refer pain to the arm, shoulder or chest. Acute pain is normally a sign of inflammation and is often aggravated by sudden movements.
