Maternity (pre and post-natal care)

During pregnancy the body shape changes so quickly that the back, hips and pelvis often struggle to cope. The good news though is that pregnant women produce hormones which allow the body to relax better and adapt to these changes. This means that pregnant women often require very little treatment to solve their aches and pains.
"When I was pregnant I suffered in my low back and hips. Every time I saw Edward I felt instantly better and the next day the symptoms were gone completely. Not only that but after my treatment near the end of my pregnancy, my baby turned from transverse. The midwives couldn't believe it… He's amazing!!"
Emma, Worcester
Once you have given birth the very sudden loss of weight and change in body-shape also causes problems as your body has to readjust very quickly. When you consider the stress of labour, whether natural or cesarean, it is remarkable how well the body recovers.

Osteopathy is a great way of helping your body's natural healing and recovery process. Cranial treatment is gentle, soothing and effective at re-balancing all the tensions and stresses the body has been placed under. It can be performed very soon after giving birth and is completely pain-free.

Once your body has recovered from the physical stress of giving birth, there will become a time when it would be wise to strengthen the abdominal core and pelvic floor muscles. Clinical Pilates has been proven to prevent further injury to the spine, hips and pelvis by helping to strengthen and retrain these areas. Long-term posture problems may result from not addressing these issues properly.
